Dak okay but baccy not says Govt
The government is exhibiting double standards over smoking and cannabis - indicating a willingness to talk about suing tobacco companies over health effects of tobacco while debating changes to cannabis use, says National Youth Affairs spokesman Simon Power.
"They demonstrate a example of very muddled thinking.
"What's the difference between cannabis and tobacco on people's health? The Minister of Health Annette King seems to believe that smoking cannabis is healthier than smoking cigarettes," says Mr Power.
Her government is talking about suing over damage done by tobacco and at the same time inviting more damage by suggesting changes to cannabis law.
"They're shutting one stable door after the horse has bolted, and throwing open another door while they're at it.
"Are they implying that smoking cannabis has no ill effects? Try telling that to parents and families who face dealing with the devastating effects of cannabis abuse on their loved ones," says Mr Power.
