Minister Of Name Changes Needs Some Substance
Changing the name of the Benefit Crime Unit and
reclassifying overpayments isn't going to change the fact
millions of dollars are not going where they should," says
National MP Belinda Vernon.
"Whether its clients or
customers, benefit crime or benefit control, WINZ or DWI -
we've yet to see the verbose Steve Maharey deliver tangible
results to those who are dependent on the benefit system.
"Isn't this the Minister who has supposedly spent the
last '9 long years' developing the solution to the social
policy conundrum? There are a lot of inquiries, taskforces,
consultation and compacts - but what we need is some action.
"Mr Maharey is spending a lot of time on the semantics;
it's time he got stuck into the substance," Ms Vernon
