Early Childhood Teachers Cannot Expect Pay Rises

EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHERS CANNOT EXPECT PAY INCREASES


“The paltry increases in the early childhood funding announced by the Government in its budget will put a damper on any expectations of pay increases,” New Zealand First Education spokesperson, Hon Brian Donnelly, said today.

“The increases of 9 cents per hour for kindergarten rates and 8 cents per hour for other early childhood providers does not cover the cost of inflation. Effectively funding has been diminished.

“Given the policies of Alliance and Labour to deliver pay parity with primary teachers, there was an expectation that some positive progress would be made. The budget has dashed expectations of early childhood education,” Mr Donnelly said.
