Greens to support urgency over ERB
The Green Party has agreed to support Labour's request for urgency on the Employment Relations Bill.
Green Co-Leader Rod Donald said while the party didn't usually support urgency unless matters in Parliament were genuinely urgent, Green MPs were very frustrated by deliberate time-wasting in the debating chamber.
"As part of our effort to achieve better parliamentary processes this year, we approached the National Party seeking support for a time-limited debate on the Employment Relations Bill - 19 hours over two weeks including 15 hours on the committee stages," Mr Donald said. "We believe this was ample time to properly debate the issues.
"National rejected this proposal and therefore we have agreed to Labour's request for urgency."
