Committee presents reports on Vote Industry and Regional Development and other votes

This afternoon the Commerce Committee presented to the House the following six reports:

 Vote Commerce
 Vote Communications
 Vote Consumer Affairs
 Vote Energy
 Vote Government Superannuation Fund
 Vote Industry and Regional Development.

“The Commerce Committee has recommended that the appropriations in respect of the votes administered by the Ministry of Economic Development be accepted by Parliament, subject to further expenditure information on Vote Industry and Regional Development – Non-Departmental Output Class O1 being received,” said Chairperson, David Cunliffe.

“The committee notes that Vote Industry and Regional Development is a new vote this year and represents a significant new area of government expenditure,” said Mr Cunliffe.

The committee recommended that the appropriations in respect of the vote be accepted, subject to further expenditure information on the cost of establishing and operating Industry New Zealand and delivering industry and regional development programmes being made available to committee members before the vote is considered by the committee of the whole House in the Estimates debate.

The total estimated cost for the delivery of industry and regional development programmes in 2000/01 is $33.75 million..

All reports mentioned above are available from Parliament’s Bills Office or committee staff.
