Power Package Cabinet Papers Released

Minister of Energy Pete Hodgson today released the complete set of papers considered by Cabinet in reaching its decisions on the Power Package.

The package, announced on Tuesday this week, is the Government's response to the recommendations of the Ministerial Inquiry into Electricity headed by David Caygill. It is designed to deliver fairness and transparency for electricity consumers.

“These papers show the care with which the Government reviewed the issues and they ensure that interested parties have a full understanding of the thinking behind the decisions we have taken,” Mr Hodgson said.

The papers supplement the Power Package information material, which sets out further background and includes the current draft of the Government’s Policy Statement on electricity. Those papers are available on:

and from the Ministry of Economic Development.
