Sealord Deal - Time to Start Fishing and Stop Haggling
Wednesday 17th Jan 2001 Rodney Hide Media Release -- Other
ACT Fisheries Spokesman Rodney Hide has welcomed the deal for the Japan’s Nissui and the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission (TE Ohu Kai Moana) to buy Brierley Investments’ 50 percent stake in Sealord and says it is time to stop the haggling and get on with the fishing.
“The deal has been complex, divisive and very political. But the deal has been done and the thing now is to concentrate on the fishing and the further creation of value and jobs within the fishing industry.
“I hope for the sake of New Zealand’s future growth and prosperity that this is the last time the Government meddles in important business deals like this,” Mr Hide.
