Good Motorway System The Answer For Auckland
Friday 16th Feb 2001 Penny Webster Media Release -- Other
"The Government has been saying that they are `committed to getting a positive resolution to securing good rail services for Auckland` for 14 months now - but as yet all we have seen is all talk and no action," says ACT Transport Spokesman Penny Webster.
"When are the Government and the Auckland Regional Council going to realise light rail is not the answer? What we need is a solution that addresses the problem across the region, not just in the central city, and recognises the fact people like their cars.
"The only logical answer is to finish the motorway system - not pour $100 million dollars into a rail system.
"Cars are here to stay - its time the Government and the Auckland Regional Council accepted that. A well-co-ordinated motorway system is the only sensible option for Auckland," Mrs Webster said.
