COSGROVE SECURES MEETING WITH TRANZ RAIL
Waimakariri Labour Member of Parliament, Clayton Cosgrove, said today that he has met with a senior executive from Tranz Rail’s Wellington corporate office, and it has been agreed that Tranz Rail staff will meet him - on site - at the Williams Street Rail Crossing on Monday 26 February
“I met with Tranz Rail’s Group General Manager, Mr Jeffrey Heisler and he has agreed that his staff will come and see first hand why local people are so concerned for their safety.”
Mr Cosgrove demanded the meeting with Tranz Rail after a number of Waimakariri constituents contacted him regarding the unsafe nature of the level crossing given the considerable increase in traffic as a result of the new Kaiapoi Crossing development, which makes the Williams Street and Hilton Street intersection the busiest in Kaiapoi.
“I have today made it clear to Mr Heisler that the local community considers the crossing unsafe and therefore remedial safety measures are required. I am pleased that Tranz Rail has agreed to my request for a meeting and I look forward to their response once they have heard from the community,” Mr Cosgrove said.
Members of the Kaiapoi Community Board together with local Police are to attend Mondays meeting.
