Why Wait Three Years for Road Improvement?
Monday 9th Apr
2001 Penny Webster Media Release -- Other
ACT MP
Transport Spokesman Penny Webster this morning applauded the
use of $80 million to create an Auckland highway linking
the motorways with the port, but questioned the long delay
before work will start.
“The answer to Auckland’s
transport nightmare lies in improving the road network,
and this great use of money recognises that
fact.
“However, this vital work will not begin for
15 months. This delay can partially be blamed on
complicated Resource Management Act requirements.
“This
work has been on the books for a long time, so why the
delay?
“Three years is far too long to wait for this
crucial work to be completed,” Penny Webster said.

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack
Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
