ACT Education spokesman MP Donna Awatere Huata today commended a Flaxmere principal for succeeding against the odds.
"A report out by the Education Review Office says that children at decile-one Peterhead School are receiving an "outstanding" education," Donna Awatere Huata said today.
"I applaud the principal, Kevin Brown.
"The success at Peterhead School is largely due to the motivation and drive of Mr Brown. He empowers children and motivates his pupils to succeed. His vision of excellence permeates all school processes. Mr Brown leads by example, and sets high standards for staff and processes.
"A very effective management team and a dedicated, hard-working staff ably support the principal.
"Far more schools need to aspire to emulate Peterhead's success. He has qualities that every principal needs.
"I am delighted that this decile-one school is succeeding against the odds. We must now eliminate zoning so parents can elect to send their children to decent schools like this one, and escape all those schools that engender failure," Donna Awatere Huata said.
