Greens Play with Truck Numbers
Thursday 5th Jul 2001 Penny Webster Media Release -- Other
The Green Party is guilty of using figures disingenuously in order to scare people about trucks, ACT MP Penny Webster said today.
"Jeanette Fitzsimons' claim that twenty per cent of accidents in 1999 involved trucks gives the impression that all of those accidents were the truck-driver's fault.
"In fact, the number of accidents where truck drivers were to blame is just seven per cent.
"The Green Party is manipulating figures to create the wrong impression.
"After all, if we took the total number of deaths where trains were in some way involved, and blamed them all on the train drivers, we could make rail look very unsafe," Penny Webster said.
