Evidence For Independent Inquiry Into Army Mounting

Evidence for a full and independent inquiry into every aspect of the army's activities involving capital purchases is now overwhelming, Owen Jennings said today.

"The Government cannot continue to fudge an issue involving a sum of money in excess of a billion dollars, where there is evidence of dirty tricks, cover-ups, deception and trickery by defence personnel.

"The Government has no credibility if it stonewalls on an inquiry. Evidence is emerging every day of further subterfuge and misuse of public funds.

"Minister Burton is looking increasingly helpless and hopeless. Further revelations of bungling and deception are likely," Owen Jennings said.
