Start needed on labelling GE food
New Zealand food companies should go ahead with labelling GM food products despite the Australia New Zealand Food Authority ruling against the labelling provisions coming in next month, National's Health spokesperson Roger Sowry said today.
"It is disappointing that ANZFA did not allow the new labelling regime to come into effect on December 7, but this shouldn't stop food businesses going ahead with labelling food.
"New Zealanders want to know what is in their food and what they are eating. It is important they are given the opportunity to identify this so they can make choices.
"The food industry should not wait until the next deadline to think about introducing labels," Mr Sowry said.
