How Dr Cullen Can Boost Business Confidence
Wednesday, 31 October 2001, 10:31 am
Press Release: ACT New Zealand
|
Michael Cullen can restore business confidence if he stops
passing the buck and starts making some simple decisions,
ACT Finance Spokesman MP Rodney Hide said today.
"Instead of blaming 'external' factors, Dr Cullen needs to
accept that he has the power to turn things around.
"To boost confidence we must increase the return and
decrease the risk of doing business in New Zealand. The
only way this can be done is by lowering taxes and
securing property rights.
"Dr Cullen should stop
dithering, and pay some attention to the McLeod Tax
Review.
"Business confidence can be restored, if Dr
Cullen chooses to do his job," Mr Hide said.

Gordon Campbell: On the Sony cyber attack
Given the layers of meta-irony involved, the saga of the Sony cyber attack seemed at the outset more like a snarky European art film than a popcorn entry at the multiplex.
Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
