Press Release: New Zealand National Party

12 November 2001
National is absolutely committed to New
Zealand troops supporting our friends and allies in the war
against terrorism in Afghanistan, Opposition Leader Bill
English said today.
"It is Prime Minister Clark who has a
real problem on her hands maintaining total Government
support for the war. It's her job to secure that support and
she cannot take National's support for granted on issues her
Government can't handle when the going gets tough.
"I am
not going to spend the next 12 months acting as a de facto
coalition partner to Helen Clark when her Government is
divided," Mr English said.
