Thursday, 22 November 2001, 10:57 am
Press Release: New Zealand National Party
National is welcoming the establishment of the Game and
Forest Foundation, an umbrella group which will lobby the
Government on the 'sustainable use' of game animals in New
Zealand.
"Bringing five interest groups together to manage
the economic opportunities of game animals is a sensible
move," says National MP and a member of the Local Government
and Environment select committee, Eric Roy.
Mr Roy is a
keen recreational sportsman.
"Game and forest interests
have, in the past, been fragmented so this collective
approach is a positive step forward. The desire to work
constructively with government agencies is welcomed.
"Game
management has an important part to play in terms of both
economic and environmental progress, and in the recreational
pursuits of a large number of New Zealanders," said Mr Roy.
