New Zealand First Position On Afghanistan Conflict And Government Support
Due to a number of media inquiries this morning following the apparent weakening in support for the Government from the Greens, The Alliance, the National Party and the United party over the deployment of New Zealand troops in Afghanistan, New Zealand First leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, has issued the following statement:
“The New Zealand First Caucus unanimously supports the Government’s position over the conflict in Afghanistan and the war on terrorism. New Zealand First will not make this issue a political one and we will not make this a confidence issue.
“This is not a time to be playing political games. This is a matter of international security akin to New Zealand’s involvement in World War Two. We would however like the people of New Zealand to be kept better informed of developments.
