Time For 'Concern' Is Over. Time To Sever Ties
ZIMBABWE NOW A ROGUE STATE—
TIME FOR 'CONCERN' IS OVER. TIME TO SEVER TIES
If the Commonwealth is too lily-livered to take action against Zimbabwe then New Zealand should take unilateral action and encourage other Commonwealth nations to do the same, according to New Zealand First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters.
Mr Peters’ comments came after New Zealand born former Prime Minister Sir Garfield Todd was stripped of his Zimbabwean citizenship yesterday.
“The time for New Zealand to simply say that we have ‘concerns’ about Zimbabwe are over. We must take action by withdrawing all diplomatic, military, and aid ties with Zimbabwe, and encourage other nations to do the same. We cannot even guarantee that New Zealanders in Zimbabwe or our diplomatic staff are safe.
“Sadly Zimbabwe is now to be regarded as a rogue state.
“We must now be prepared to treat Zimbabwe the way we treated South Africa under apartheid. Zimbabwe has effectively banned all opposition and free press. Their upcoming elections are guaranteed to be rigged, human rights are routinely trampled on and the Mugabe regime is now a dictatorship.
