No Need For New Zealanders To Have To Pay Petrol Increase
The Governments transport package as announced today breaks a promise not to bring in new taxes on middle New Zealand, says National Party Leader Bill English.
"The Government will collect over 227 million dollars in new petrol tax and every household and every business will have to foot the bill.
"I want to see Auckland's roading problems fixed. National announced an aggressive policy a month ago, which the Government has clearly picked up on as most of our ideas, even those Labour have opposed such as the public/private funding projects have been included. "Labour does not need the new tax. The Government could use money from the petrol tax it already collects. The Government has large surpluses and tax revenue is already several hundred million dollars ahead of budget.
"A National Government would repeal this petrol increase," says Mr English.
