Early Childhood Education In A Straitjacket
The Government's equity funding system for kindergartens has again limited choice and diversity for parents, says National's Early Childhood Education Spokesperson Anne Tolley.
"Once again, Government control has been given priority over parental choice. Only public kindergartens receive the new funding, shutting out many innovative educators who provide a great service.
"Parents need to have choice where they send their kids. The Government should be encouraging diversity of providers, rather than trying to prescribe everything from Wellington.
"Extra resources are welcome, but only if they will make a real difference. Unfortunately there is no proof this will be the case," said Ms Tolley.
