Disappointment At Stein Retirement
21 March 2002
Today's announcement that Drew Stein will retire as managing director of NZ Post subsidiary Transend has left Opposition MPs "saddened and disappointed", according to National MP Murray McCully.
"I was hoping that Mr Stein would appear before the Finance and Expenditure Committee to assist it with the further consideration of the NZ Post financial review. It is clear to me that Mr Stein is in possession of valuable insights into the operation of Transend in South Africa and Madrid, and I was looking forward with great enthusiasm to the opportunity to benefit from those insights.
"Coincidentally, Mr Stein's announced return from sick leave will come too late for the Select Committee report on the financial review of NZ Post. However, in wishing Mr Stein a speedy recovery I also express the hope that he will be able to make himself available to the Select Committee to assist with the further inquiry into NZ Post which will commence at the conclusion of the financial review."
