National Welcomes Chief Of Defence Force Views
30 April 2002
The admission by new Chief of Defence Force Bruce Ferguson that "a small number of servicemen had not been totally loyal in the past 12 months" is welcome confirmation that there were unacceptable activities in the Defence Force, says National's Defence Spokesperson Max Bradford.
"While Air Marshal Ferguson's comments are welcome, he needs to bring closure to the question of disloyalty by releasing all remaining reports into the armed forces.
"The Carruthers report is many months overdue. Only the public release of the full report will bring closure to this unhappy chapter in the armed forces.
"The National Opposition offers it's full support to Air Marshal Ferguson in putting these matters behind him, but only when the full report is released so that nothing remains hidden.
"We also expect that any illegal activities will be subject to appropriate legal censure," said Mr Bradford.
