Govt. Comment On Teacher Negotiation Advertisement
8 May 2002
Acting Education Minister Marian Hobbs confirmed that the government had agreed to the Ministry of Education placing an advertisement in daily newspapers today updating the process of negotiations with secondary teachers.
“We are aware of increasing concerns from parents as the strike action continues and we wanted to ensure that they understood what government is doing to settle this dispute.
“The government is keen to get a settlement but is not prepared to have negotiations going on while teachers are on strike. It is therefore pleasing that dates have been set for next week for negotiations,” Marian Hobbs said.
Marian Hobbs said she understood the advertisement cost $30,000 taken from the Ministry’s industrial relations budget for managing school sector negotiations.
