Shane Ardern, National's Biosecurity spokesman, is incorrect when he says the government claimed last November that it had eliminated the Southern Saltmarsh Mosquito from the Kaipara.

The Associate Minister for Biosecurity, Marian Hobbs, reported then that the SSM had been eradicated from Mahia and Napier but the battle was continuing elsewhere in Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and Kaipara.

Today's media release from the Ministry of Health about the Whangaparaoa discovery details the success of the eradication programmes.
