Mass stopwork meeting a preview of new law

The massive stopwork meeting in Wellington by metal and manufacturing workers today is a taste of things to come, says National's Industrial Relations spokesperson Roger Sowry.

"We've seen this week revelations over the CTU's influence on the Employment Relations Law Reform Bill, which shows how far the Government is prepared to go to pander to union interests.

"The agenda of the unions is clear - a return to the bad old days of strikes, compulsion, and multi-employer collective agreements. All these moves reduce the freedom of workers and employers and will make it harder to do business in New Zealand.

"Unions realise by flexing their muscles the Labour Government will give them what they want. New Zealanders will end up paying the cost," said Mr Sowry.
