Extension to breast screening programme

Health Minister Annette King will today announce a major extension of the BreastScreen Aotearoa programme, to begin rolling out from July 1 this year.

The programme was set up in 1998 to cover women aged 50 to 64. Currently 62 percent of the eligible population is covered by the programme.

Ms King said today’s announcement represents a “huge advance” for the programme, and reflects the Government’s commitment to continue building strong public health services.
