Parliament backs Dunne liquor move
Ohariu-Belmont MP and United Future leader, Peter Dunne, says he’s delighted that Parliament last night overwhelmingly backed his amendment to the liquor laws that will make life a little easier for members of sporting and social clubs.
“Previously, an arcane part of the law said members of clubs that had reciprocal visiting rights could have a drink together in a club, but only the members of the host club could buy liquor to take away, while their guests were not allowed to.
“Last night, Parliament voted 98 – 16 to
remove this peculiar distinction, which means RSA and
similar club members won’t have to be irritated by
pettifogging laws of a previous era,” said Mr Dunne.
