Borrow For Roading Not Bureaucracy
New Zealand First Transport Spokesperson, Peter Brown, says the Government should be borrowing money for roading , not reintroducing a bond scheme to fund infrastructure.
“There is an old saying ‘keep things simple’ and this should apply to roading in this country,” he said.
“The Government should identify exactly what is required in terms of roading, which is far more than is embraced in the Transit 10 Year Plan.
“We should determine the cost as accurately as possible, which I suspect is far more than Transit have identified. We should borrow money to assist roading in a reasonable timeframe.
“The Government should also be giving the money back that is collected from the petrol motorist, which currently goes into the Crown Account. This should be used to repay interest on money borrowed,” concluded Mr Brown.
