Rowley Resource Centre opens in new premises

The opening of new premises for the Rowley Resource Centre in Spreydon is a good time to celebrate the success of their work in the community, Jim Anderton, MP for Wigram said today.

"The success of the Rowley Resource Centre is a symbol of people helping people for the benefit of everyone. It's a sign that this community is serious about it's own future and actively working together on the challenges ahead.

"I commend the staff of the resource centre for their work in helping people with nutrition, parenting skills, life skills, and generally supporting those children and families who need assistance.

"One of the reasons I am so enthusiastic about economic development is because with more jobs and a stronger economy, we can do more to help struggling families with job opportunities and more social services.

"This community faces many challenges and is working together to address them. This is something we all must do in our communities in whatever way we can and I congratulate the Rowley Resource Centre for doing such a good job here in Christchurch.

Background

Rowley Resource Centre staff identify community needs, ideas and goals, and help to find ways to meet them, working alongside individuals, schools and other organisations in the local area, with the support of local and central government bodies. It offers a range of community courses and services to assist people.

The centre has been supported throughout by the Christchurch City Council, through the Spreydon / Heathcote Community Board has been a stalwart supporter of the work done by the Centre. The Centre has little capacity for income generation and is reliant on funding. Relocation to 59 Rowley Avenue would not have been possible without the support of the Community Board and its staff
