ACT On Huata Decision
Friday 16 Jul 2004 Rodney Hide
Press Releases - Other
ACT New Zealand Leader
Rodney Hide today expressed disappointment with the Court
of Appeal's decision not to uphold the High Court's
judgement that ACT is entitled to request that Speaker
Jonathan Hunt declare Donna Awatere Huata's Parliamentary
seat vacant.
"I am disappointed with the ruling.
Taxpayers now must continue to foot the bill for a
non-functioning MP. They are missing out on the benefit
of a ninth ACT MP.
"I will be discussing the judgement
with my Caucus and the ACT Board before deciding on any
further action," Mr Hide said.

Yet now with (a) President Barack Obama weighing in on the side of artistic freedom and calling for the US to make a ‘proportionate response’quickly followed by (b) North Korea’s entire Internet service going down, and with both these events being followed by (c) Sony deciding to backtrack and release The Interview film that had made it a target for the dastardly North Koreans in the first place, then ay caramba…the whole world will now be watching how this affair pans out.
