Government Must Come To Party With Primary Teachers
The Government is playing a perilous game with the education of our young people in its current negotiations with primary teachers, claims New Zealand First education spokesperson Brian Donnelly.
“The Government seems to have failed to comprehend the level of frustration among primary teachers. Having achieved pay parity in 1998 they have had their gains seriously eroded under the present government.
“The last thing we need is an occurrence in the primary service of what occurred in the secondary sector in 2002. If the Government does not demonstrate at least some good will to primary teachers, strike action will be inevitable.
“The losers in such a case will be the children who will lose valuable learning time,” said Mr Donnelly.
