Arthur Lydiard was an icon of 'can do' Kiwi attitude
National Party Leader Don Brash says Arthur Lydiard leaves behind him a legacy that New Zealand should be immensely proud of.
"It was with great sadness that I learned of Arthur Lydiard's death. I join with others today in wishing his wife, family and friends my most sincere condolences.
"Arthur Lydiard was an icon of the 'can do' Kiwi attitude. He showed real determination and he passed that on to those that were lucky enough to benefit from his innovative training techniques," says Dr Brash.
"He's been an inspiration to many young New Zealanders, and indeed some of our best athletes today. His training techniques were eventually used by some of the best in the world after originally being dismissed.
"His is a story of tenacity, determination, self belief and hard work. All New Zealanders should be proud of his achievement," says Dr Brash.
