Gas Industry Company formed
The government has
approved the formation of the co-regulatory body for the gas
industry, The Gas Industry Company, Energy Minister Trevor
Mallard said today.
The formation of the company came out of work undertaken jointly by government and the industry to establish an appropriate governance regime for the sector.
The company will be able to make recommendations to the Energy Minister on a wide array of industry matters including the making of rules and regulations for gas wholesaling, processing, transmission, distribution and retailing.
“It's good to see the work that the gas industry has undertaken to establish the company come to fruition today," Trevor Mallard said.
"I look forward to them engaging with the wider industry and consumers to ensure that the key objectives for the gas industry, as outlined in the Government Policy Statement on Gas Governance, are met."
These objectives include the delivery of gas to existing and new customers in a safe, efficient, fair, reliable and environmentally sustainable manner.
