Labour takes a bet each way

A move by the Lotteries Commission to increase the number of lottery outlets flies in the face of the intent of the Gambling Act, says National’s Gaming spokesman, Lindsay Tisch.

He is commenting on a report that the Lotteries Commission plans to open hundreds of new outlets and let people buy their tickets online.

“The purpose of the Gambling Act is to limit gambling, but the Labour Government wants a bet each way,” says Mr Tisch.

“The Lotteries Commission, which is a Government-owned gaming operator, is able to set up more lottery outlets because of the Gambling Act.

“This will encourage gambling, but the Government has to be seen to be doing something to curb gambling in other areas so it is hitting pokie machine operators with excessive red tape.

“Labour’s manipulation and double standards in the gaming industry makes a farce of the gambling legislation.

“These double standards must stop immediately,” says Mr Tisch.
