Funds allocation a rort

ACT Leader Rodney Hide today labelled the Electoral Commission's allocation of broadcasting funds as a rort on taxpayers.

"The election allocation is a jack-up between the Labour-National two party club. They ban all other parties from advertising, sock the poor taxpayer for party political broadcasts and then take the lion's share of the money for themselves.

"Taxpayers shouldn't have to cough up at all. Political parties should have the freedom of speech to advertise on television with their own money.

"Given that they have taken this money off the taxpayer, it should be allocated evenly rather than be used to perpetuate the two party club," Mr Hide said.
