United Future leader and chair of Parliament’s
foreign affairs, defence and trade select committee, Peter
Dunne, has welcomed the report /Defending New Zealand/
issued today by the Returned Services Association as a
valuable contribution to an urgently-needed national
debate.
“United Future doesn’t necessarily agree with
everything the RSA proposes,” he says “but we warmly support
the call a multi-party approach to defence issues; the call
to play to our strengths and the need to integrate our
defence forces more closely with Australia’s.
“These are
all key aspects of United Future’s approach to defence
issues, and I have made it known to the RSA that we will be
happy to work closely with them to progress the areas we
have in common.
“This significant report, only the RSA’s
3rd of this type in 90 years, is a breath of fresh air in
the defence debate and is full of practical commonsense,”
said Mr
Dunne.
