Maori seats, gone by kai time?

Hon Parekura Horomia
M.P. for Ikaroa-Rawhiti

26 July 2005 Media Release

Maori seats, gone by kai time?

National has made their vision for New Zealand clear. Under National, the future of New Zealand will be one where Maori will get few, if any, speaking parts according to Ikaroa-Rawhiti MP Parekura Horomia.

"National seem determined should they ever become government for a New Zealand that is "Maori free".

"Their leader, Dr Brash has made it clear that abolishing the Maori seats was policy on which National could not compromise. Similar "abolishing" threats have been made about Maori Television, Iwi Radio, kohanga reo, Wananga, Maori health providers – pretty much everything that doesn't fit into National's vision of "mainstream".

"I want to say on the record now, that I will never be a part of any government that places such little value and respect on the contribution of Maori to the past and future of Aotearoa-New Zealand".
