“Chris Ryan, the CEO of the Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ), had no right in his memo or anywhere else, to state New Zealand First is on side with National’s policy on ACC,” said New Zealand First’s ACC spokesperson Peter Brown.
“New Zealand First’s policy on ACC is quite clear and has been published and recorded on our website for some months now.
“It is true we want to allow private insurers a window of opportunity to become involved in workplace insurance. In such circumstances, the private insurer will be subject to minimum standards of cover and financial wherewithal, set by ACC itself.
“Currently, ACC offers limited cover, particularly for the self-employed and the low paid. It does not even consider health insurance.
“By opening the window of opportunity to approved private insurance companies, New Zealand First believes there will emerge more comprehensive cover incorporating health insurance for less fee. We believe this can only be good for New Zealanders.
“None of this has been discussed by anyone in New Zealand First, with either the National Party or Chris Ryan,” said Mr Brown.
“New Zealand First certainly has no secret agenda.”
