MPs’ facilities in
House updated
The debating chamber has been wired to
enable MPs to use laptop computers while in the
House.
Wireless coverage and both Ethernet and power connectivity have been provided at each desk.
The Speaker, Hon Margaret Wilson, says the provision of access for laptops for MPs in the chamber follows a decision by the Business Committee last year.
It is part of an ongoing strategy to ensure Parliament keeps pace with technical developments.
The use of electronic equipment in the chamber is covered by guidelines which will be updated to incorporate laptops and mobile devices.
The new service is not yet up and running but will be once MPs laptops are connected to the wireless or wired network.
