Mapp: Mallard's comments "a bit rich"
Trevor Mallard's suggestion that we did not win more Commonwealth Games medals because our athletes lacked mental toughness is a bit rich from a Minister who presided over an education system where scores are no longer kept in primary school sport, says National's spokesman for Political Correctness Eradication, Wayne Mapp.
"New Zealand has a proud sporting history and, as a people, we are fiercely loyal to our sporting heroes - past and present. Everyone knows that medals are hard fought for.
"Labour's attempt to diminish the competitive spirit of our young people undermines the can-do ethos that is so central to many of our international successes.
"If Trevor Mallard is serious about sporting success he will move to change the anti-competitive, mollycoddling culture in our schools," says Dr Mapp.
