Heather Roy "Marches Out" From Territorials

ACT MP Heather Roy "marched out" as a Territorial Force soldier at the weekend,
following six weeks of training at Waiouru military camp.

"To be effective, MPs need first hand experience. I will be returning to
Parliament as a better National Security spokesman", Mrs Roy said.

"I have accompanied police officers on patrol, done shifts with St John
ambulance crews, and now I have a unique insight into our defence
forces.

"I didn't receive any special treatment for being an MP, and I will
continue to serve just like other Territorial Force soldiers.

"Like Members of Parliament, our defence forces are able to make a
positive difference to our country and the world we live in.

"I hope that other people like me - with families and full time jobs -
will consider serving our country as a volunteer", Mrs Roy said.
