The Maori
Party is pleased to learn of the appointment of the new
Chief Executive for the Ministry of Health.
"We would
like to congratulate Stephen McKernan in his appointment as
the Director-General of Health" stated Tariana Turia.
"We
have been greatly concerned by the frequent and ongoing
exposure of institutional racism in the health system"
stated Mrs Turia.
"We will encourage the new leadership
to seriously address the issues of institutional racism
which appear to be endemic in a number of institutions,
including health" stated Mrs Turia.
We looking to the
new Head to demonstrate courage in order to address the
serious disparities between Maori and others in the health
sector" said Tariana Turia, health spokesperson for the
Maori
