Parker welcomes contribution to wind discussion

Energy Minister David Parker today welcomed a report on wind energy by the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Morgan Williams.

David Parker said the report recognised the importance of wind farms in providing a sustainable energy supply for New Zealand.

"Dr Williams has made a number of recommendations for the government which I look forward to examining in detail," David Parker said.

"The government is committed to developing New Zealand's renewable energy resources, but recognises there are environmental impacts associated with wind farms that must be taken into account."

"This research is timely, given that I am soon to release a draft of the New Zealand Energy Strategy. This report will be a valuable contribution to that work."
