Chester Borrows back on the beat

National Party MP, Chester Borrows, says he's humbled to be given the Police beat in National's reshuffled caucus, announced today.

"To be made Police Spokesman relatively early in my political career is very humbling and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in."

Mr Burrows, a former Detective Sergeant, served 24 years with the New Zealand Police before retiring to pursue his political ambitions.

"As an opposition spokesman I will cast a critical eye over the police and hold the Labour Government to account. But police should know I'm supportive of what they do.

Mr Borrows says it's an interesting time for police with new issues on the horizon.

"Police are dealing with things they haven't had to deal with before, like the use of tasers, more overseas deployments and the drafting of a new police act."
