Why did probation ignore police over Burton?

It is unacceptable that police warnings about convicted killer Graeme Burton were ignored by the Probation Service, says National Party Police spokesman Chester Borrows.

"Police are out there on the street and are the experts when it comes to the behaviour of people who are on parole.

“If the police don’t get listened too, they – and the public - get in harms way. In Burton’s case, an innocent life has been taken and others have been injured.

"The police are the ones seeing and hearing about breaches of parole. Why would you waste such a resource and ignore it?

"Police rarely seek recall of parolees and when they do, it should be taken very seriously indeed.

“In this case, the cost of ignoring the police has been very high.”
