Party pill stockpiles no surprise

National Party MP Jacqui Dean isn't surprised party pill producers are stockpiling BZP alternatives, as the Government drags the chain on reviewing regulations.

"Jim Anderton is dawdling on this issue; meanwhile the industry is making the most of the opportunity to stock up on BZP and BZP alternatives.

"Party pill producers are making money off young Kiwi pill poppers and they will continue to do so for as long as possible.

"It needs to stop.

"Before Christmas, Jim Anderton said there are a number of legal steps he must follow before making a final decision on making the common ingredients in party pills illegal.

"Yesterday the Herald on Sunday reported that Cabinet isn't expected to meet on this until May.

"Mr Anderton has received advice from experts on the party pill issue and even admitted there are 'severe adverse affects' with the use of the drugs.

"So when will he take the final step and do something about it?"
