Maharey's outburst shows Govt under pressure
Steve Maharey's unparliamentary outburst in the House today shows he and the Labour Government are under considerable pressure, and he should consider taking a break from his portfolios, says National Shadow Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee.
"The Broadcasting and Education Minister, who has responsibility for Radio New Zealand, has been caught out illegally threatening Radio New Zealand.
"This comes just a week after SOEs Minister Trevor Mallard was involved in a loud verbal exchange with TVNZ's parliamentary press gallery office.
"Despite the looming three-week recess, organised by the Labour Government due to its very light legislative programme, Mr Maharey clearly needs more time to clear his head.
"His apology through the media is one thing, but in this circumstance a senior Minister who loses his cool after being outed for bullying the media, should make a statement to Parliament."
