Maharey delivers less local content

Labour's broadcasting policy is delivering less local content on Television New Zealand with each passing year, says National Party Broadcasting spokesman Jonathan Coleman.

Dr Coleman is commenting after the release of the New Zealand On Air 2006 Local Content Report.

"In 2002 TV One was delivering 60% total local content. Four years on, the figure is 53%.

"Over the same period local content on TV2 has dropped 5% to just 20%."

"Local content is at the heart of the Government's charter. It's meant to deliver more local content, not less.

"The reality is that TVNZ is doing the best it can in a situation it has been placed in by the Labour Government.

"These figures are the worst indictment of Labour's broadcasting policy yet."
