Labour adopts National’s charities policy

Labour adopts National’s charities policy

National Party Community Affairs spokeswoman Paula Bennett is puzzled by Labour’s about-face on the tax treatment of charities and volunteers.

“Given the Budget announcements yesterday, why did Helen Clark insult the sector by describing National’s policy in this area as ‘tax cuts for the rich’?

“Surely the Prime Minister must have known what was in the Budget, unless Labour was forced to change its policy at the last minute.”

Ms Bennett says she’s delighted that Labour has seen sense on the matter, despite other senior Ministers describing efforts to help the community and voluntary sector as ‘Tory charity’.

“Clearly, it’s only tax cuts for the rich if National has the idea first. The community and voluntary sector deserve better than that sort of petty political point scoring.”
